Submitting to Directories
To get listed on a
directory, you submit your website address using the directory's
submission (add URL) form. Your website is then reviewed
by an editor and ranked according to the description provided
on the form. It is essential your website is submitted to
the appropriate category in the directory otherwise it may
take months to be listed or in the worse case scenario it
may not be listed at all.
Be Kind
The main directories have human editors do remember this
and be polite and follow the rules
Choose subcategories
over top-level categories.
If you submit to a top-level category even though appropriate
subcategories are available, there's a good chance your
submission will be denied. For example if you are a landscaper
in London ensure to submit to the lowest subcategory. Do
not submit to the category Landscapers, instead submit your
site to Landscapers>UK>London
Once you've decided upon the most appropriate category,
find and click the "add a site" (or submit URL)
link. Now you're ready to begin the submission process.
Choose Appropriate Title
The safest option is to have your title as your business
name and not a keyword rich phrase. The directories do not
like you using keyword rich titles
Write a Sensible
Description
The description you write for your website has an important
part to play so keep it sensible. Do not include any hype
such as 'Our widget is the best widget in the world' or
include too many keywords and keep it short.
The time it takes to have your website
submitted to the directories depends and can be sometimes
as long as 6/7 months, but if you follow the above steps
everything should go smoothly.
